A automobile from a big movie or TV series may become as famous as the celebrities of that movie or series are. The cars from classic shows and movies are famous too, and could command high selling prices as a result. Sometimes, it’s deliberate. Hollywood has no compunction about using “product placement” to boost sales for car makers.

Behind the right wheel can mean a scene is up to steal

Chances are just about anybody can think of a few famous autos from TV or motion picture that have a special place inside their hearts. Some people even purchase them. If you buy a cool automobile from a cool TV show or movie that makes you amazing to lots of people. The following list is short however distinguished.

  • The Chevy Camaro. Camaros have been in lots of movies and shows. The recent “Lost” auction had a Camaro among the lots. The “Transformers” films featured a vintage and new Camaro, which certainly helped marketing campaigns and sales.
  • The Ford Mustang: the film “Bullitt” featured a 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback driven by Steve McQueen. Consider also the 1973 Mach 1 and also the 1967 Shelby GT500. Both were central to the plots of the original and remake version of “Gone in 60 Seconds.” Ford even offered a “Bullitt” package on the 2001 Mustang.
  • DeLorean DMC 12 – The time machine from “Back to the Future” made this car a legend. It certainly looked futuristic, but drivers lamented the auto for being woefully inadequate under the hood and for being a complete lemon.
  • Dodge Charger – not only did a 1968 Charger chase Steve McQueen in “Bullitt,” a Charger was “General Lee” from the “Dukes of Hazard” TV series and recent film, and it was featured in Quentin Tarantino’s “Deathproof.”
  • The Pontiac Trans Am. The ridiculously fast Firebird package was “KITT” in the “Knight Rider” sequence and featured intensely in “Smokey and also the Bandit” as Burt Reynolds’ auto of choice.

The ultimate movie auto is the Aston Martin DB5. A DB5 which was within the film “Goldfinger” sold for over $2 million at auction. The new generation of Aston Martins were in “Die Another Day,” “Casino Royale,” and “Quantum of Solace,” and “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” had a late 60’s DBS. The association with the world’s greatest secret agent may well have given Aston Martin the Midas Touch, and nobody expects the Aston Martin-Bond connection to die.
